First, we visited the Ta Prohm, where Tomb Raider was filmed. For 500 years, the roots of the trees grew out of control. This temple will be destroyed by these roots in the future. There was a strange building there called the “knock heart” temple, whereby when you stand against the wall and tap your chest, the noise of your taping becomes very magnified! There were also some wild dogs and cows. Xing says all animals in the park are protected, so you shouldn’t do anything to them!

When I got back onto the tour bus, Xing introduced palm sugar to us. This sugar is great for diabetics because it’s got low GI. Another words, it doesn’t make your blood sugar shoot up as soon as you eat it. Instead, it raises your blood sugar gradually. It is also rich in minerals!

Then we went to the Banteay Srei (which means the women’s fortress). Some spread the rumor that this monument was built by women, and that it is small because women can’t carry a heavy load, and the carvings are very fine because women pay great attention to details, and the material is pink because women like pink. These rumors are all wrong! This was not built by women. It is small because resource was limited. It was finely carved because if you make a mistake, you get beheaded for wasting precious resources! It is pink because that was the color of the resource available back then! When we got off the tour bus, there was a stall selling sugary drinks. Xing bought one for us to taste, and I drank quite a bit. I didn’t know I would regret doing that later! The carvings in Banteay Srei depicts various stories. For example, the story of the ugliest woman in the world: There was a woman, who was the most beautiful woman in the world. Everyone wanted her and there were wars continuously. So this women prayed to Siva to destroy her looks, and she became the world’s ugliest woman!

After visiting Banteay Srei, we went for lunch. My tummy started feeling strange at that time and I rushed to the toilet!

The next stop was Angkor Thom, where the “smile of Cambodia ” is. I saw some super thin cows on the grass, even thinner than the ones I saw previously! Then we went to Angkor Wat, which is actually a lot bigger than Angkor Thom! There is a very tall tower, and we needed to climb very steep stairs to get on the top of it! When we were about to walk back to the tour bus, I suddenly had a very uncomfortable feeling, and had to walk very fast towards the nearest toilet! I had to walk very fast, but I could not run, or else I’d get explosive diarrhea! And the toilet I went to required a tip, but I didn’t carry any money, so I tried to let the guard know using some nonverbal communication gestures! I did my thing and heard a bout of laughter from the outside. What an adventure…. you really have to be careful about what you eat there!

During the evening, we rode the Doo Doo car, which was a pleasant adventure. The ride was not smooth and we felt as though we were about to be thrown out of the car, which was pretty fun!
