The competitive world: Ability & Potential (my personal opinions again)

When you’re suddenly put into a pool of overachievers, sure, you may look like you’re one of them. But are you really one of them?

There are several possibilities for a person to make it into the pool:
1)You’re intelligent and you work consistently (when I say consistently, I just mean a person who does their homework, but doesn’t view it as the center of the universe)
2)You’re a genius and don’t really need to work hard at all
3)You have average brains but you worked your guts out and just made it into the pool
4)You’re lucky, ie:
a)you might have performed exceptionally in an interview
b)you provided an excellent reference letter that captured people’s attention
c)you might simply have to pay more fees than others to get selected
d)because of one of your parents’ positions, you can undergo an alternative selection process which makes it easier for people to get into the pool

And when you’re in the pool, two of the above categories of people will encounter difficulties:
1)Those that had to work their guts out to get selected
2)The “lucky” ones

If you’re in that difficult situation, how will you tackle it? Some of the recommendations are as follows:
1)Those that had to work their guts out to get selected: You may just have to keep working your guts out… but it’s always bad if study becomes the “center of the universe”. So if one seriously can’t handle it psychologically or physically, one should also come to a point of realization before he/she gets very very ill.
2)The lucky ones: Now, we do not know how much potential these people really have in store, so there’s two possibilities:
a)Great potential: You might have never worked hard in your life and therefore never realize how much potential you have in store in you. However, you have to work hard to get what you want. Therefore, study your guts out for a while (although that might still never quite make up for not having worked hard previously)…. And sometimes you’d be amazed.
b)Unsuitable: If you really worked your guts out and still couldn’t quite get there…. Then you may need to continue on your quest to search for something suitable. Remember, just as some people are born better looking than others, some people are also born more intelligent than others. People cannot choose how much beauty or intelligence they have in store. Therefore, one should not feel superior when they just happen to be born prettier or more intelligent. We are all humans, and there will always be moments when we feel proud of our looks, or proud of our intelligence, but there do exist some people who are constantly way too proud of themselves, and you really have to avoid these people, or else you’ll feel worse.

Remember, “overachieving” is not the primary goal in life. People should really search for something much much deeper.

In the case of Christians, one needs to pray constantly to God for advice – people are especially vulnerable to Satan’s temptations in this sort of situation. There are two possibilities that God might have showed you this path:
1)God would like to see you going in this path
2)God would like to show you that this path is unsuitable for you
But either way, God is trying to mold you and make you grow spiritually.
