The world collapses
if you bet all of your happiness on:
- the love of your life and that person betrays you.
- your career achievements and then you experience some unforeseen circumstance or injustice which lead your career to crumble.
- money, and then realize you still do not feel happy or fulfilled when you earn huge sums.
- fame and respect, but decades later people forget about you.
Yes, it is important to work hard and achieve the above goals in life, but keep an open mind and have a balance – don’t get excessively attached to any one of the above. In Christian terms, once you place any of the above before God, you will experience great psychological trauma if it collapses.
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where they can be eaten by moths and get rusty, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten and where they will be safe from thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.” Matthew 6:19-21
