Ms Park Ji Young, a 22-year-old crew member of the ferry Sewol, was among the heroes who risked their lives to save others. She lost her life while struggling to ensure that all passengers on the third and fourth floors of the vessel wore life jackets and found their way out. "I repeatedly asked her why she did not first wear a life jacket. Park just said that she would get out of the ship after making sure that all passengers were out. She said the crew including her would be the last (to escape)," a survivor told the media. "Park pushed shocked passengers toward the exit even when the water was up to her chest."

Prior to Jesus' arrest, his disciple Peter boasted that he would surely die for Jesus, and in the actual disaster he fled and denied Jesus three times. Boastful declarations made during good times often does not count. Only when disaster strikes do we really know whether we have such capability.

This young crew member was willing to put the interests of strangers ahead of her own, which reminds me of Jesus' unconditional love. Tonight, let's commemorate Good Friday with the core truth of the Bible: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

This event also reminded me of Joel Osteen’s sermon in the Hillsong Conference 2013:

Stay in faith.

God will not allow a difficulty for you unless He had a divine purpose for it. Let the storm take you where God wants you to go. 14 years ago, Joel Osteen's father didn't pull through his illness and was promoted up to heaven, it was devastation to the family initially, but it brought Joel, who's been working in the backstage for 17 years, to the front to minister. Joel was reserved and would never have volunteered to come to the front, this event pushed him to what he's doing today. The winds that were meant to harm you, let God take control and take you to something more rewarding.

Delivering faith vs sustaining faith.

Delivering faith: takes away the difficulties, eg God pulls your sick father through his illness.

Sustaining faith: Taking things through the fire and makes you fireproof, this is a greater victory. What is your test becomes your testimony.

When someone important to you passes away/ relationship breakdown etc, it's not the end of the world, it's a new chapter of your life, so don't get stuck on the same page.
