This marks the start of our long trip between Angkor and Phnom Penh! We went along the same route, back to the coconuts, the green mangos, and fried spiders. When we arrived in Phnom Penh, we felt we’ve re-entered civilization. When we ate our lunch, the waiters were all staring at the TV screen, because there happened to be a war going on at the border between Cambodia and Thailand, close to Angkor. No wonder I saw some soldiers when I was on the tour bus!

Next, we visited the Independence Monument, which was built when Cambodia became independent from French colonization in 1953. Then we went to the king’s palace and learned that the royal family is actually living in Bei Jing!! Then we visited a temple and saw a cat and a monkey. We bought lotus seeds from the monkey’s owner and it tasted nice, but was difficult to peel! Then we visited the Nagaworld Casino, which was rather boring because none of us wanted to gamble. When we left the casino, Xing pointed to a bridge and told us there was an stampede accident on 2010/11/22 during the Water Festival, because people thought the bridge was collapsing (but it wasn’t) and this killed 300-400 people!!

During diner, we had some Chinese medicine beer. Then we went to a supermarket and saw all the price labels were in US dollars, which means it was obviously set up for the tourists! Then we had a enjoyable sleep in the comfortable hotel and returned to Taiwan the following day.
