Below is Alan Patrick's mass email to stir up the community.
Most of his allegations are not even true.
First of all, the people interviewed by Channel 10 news that night include a group of concerned landlords and community members, Asian and Caucasians, who think the MARS group is really going over the top and unreasonable. Multiple members from the MARS group just frowned at us Asians. In Alan Patrick's mass email, he just labelled us as illegal boarding house supportors, which is an oxymoron because who would support ILLEGAL boarding houses? Most of us don't even give a damn about boarding houses. We just want to know what's the definition of a boarding house and how we can rent our houses out without constantly being accused of running a boarding house. Shared house and flatmates is a common thing everywhere, so why do landlords in Ryde get picked on in particular? The market in this area is students and single young professionals, and the demand is huge.
Now he even goes on to attack the councillors because during the last council meeting, they approved a house (which was already historically a boarding house a hundred years ago) to become a boarding house. The current legislation of Affordable Housing is still in place, so in the approval process, they need to follow the current legislation anyway, and the councillors are just doing their jobs!

Here is his mass email (the original email had big fonts, underlines and red&blue colour coding, which made it even more offensive!):

INVITATION TO ATTEND
TO ALL CONCERNED RESIDENTS AND MARS SUPPORTERS
Vital Event - Sunday 10 April at 3pm

The 7PM Report which is broadcast on the TEN Network at 7PM Mon–Fri wants to produce a news story on boarding houses.

The journalist and film crew will be at Dunbar Park (Koorong Street entrance) on this Sunday at 3pm to hear from the residents about this issue.

The illegal operators have had their say to this program after last night’s Council Committee meeting.

We must have our say in reply. Remember we are protecting what has always been a Local Government law which said NO Boarding houses in Ryde. It was the last NSW Labor Government that made the possibility of Boarding House in our area legal – exposing our suburbs to risks associated with such things, including incredibly, it seems, boarding houses having the potential to become fronts for houses of ill-repute.

I ASK AS A FAVOUR TO YOURSELF AND THIS VERY VALUABLE AREA NOT TO MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW THAT YOU VALUE YOUR HOME, YOUR NEIGHBOURS AND LOW/MEDIUM DENSITY RESIDENTIAL AREA and will fight to protect it from opportunistic detrimental intrusion.

Currently the supporters and advocates of illegal boarding house operators have mounted a campaign to oppose your desire to keep your area a family based low density area. They have mobilized. They were at Ryde Council Committee meeting last night cheering on all those who said you must have boarding houses whether you like it or not.

Those who effectively said this include Michael Butterworth (Labor), Nicole Campbell (Labor), Gabrielle O’Donnell (Labor), Vic Tagg (Independent), Ivan Petch (Deputy Mayor-Independent), Justin Li (Independent) and Roy Maggio (Liberal), all of whom last night voted in favour of a Boarding House DA sought by Councillor Salvestro-Martin for his own property.

Currently the NSW State Government is creating & implementing new laws governing planning and this includes boarding houses. The Councillors listed above refused to await the outcome of this exercise, and proceeded to approve the DA. This potentially delivers a financial windfall to their fellow Councillor, who now stands to profit from the boarding house trade in our area, and opens the gate for the commercial opportunists to follow through on this and take over our suburbs.

In summary, there appears to have been perpetrated a shameful betrayal of the citizens of Ryde. Therefore, please take this opportunity to have publicized your disgust at what is happening to our area. COME ON SUNDAY.

Do not leave it up to the next person. Tell your neighbours and bring them along. You sent a clear message at the recent election. Here is our chance to follow through and make our new political leaders know that they cannot run the risk of forgetting us. Just as power is conferred, it can easily be taken away.

PLEASE BE THERE! Otherwise it may be too late to retrieve the situation.
